Many parts of the community are getting involved in the planning for Earth Day so far - 4-H leaders, MTA, the Farm Bureau, Salmon Trollers, CCC, students, the Soroptomists, Harwood Lumber, PTA, artists, ministers.
National Earth Day is about issues MEC supporters know well. Locally it's time to connect with many new persons to build a safe, just and sustainable planet.
The Mendocino Earth Day Committee goal is to develop and share information as widely as possible. April 22 Earth Day, at Ukiah High, will be set up for maxium participation and information exchange. Groups will exhibit specific global issues, how the issues relate to Mendocino, and what personal and governmental actions are needed. Attendees will come to exchange ideas, to pledge action, and to be heard and counted on their ideas. The input from all the communities participating in Earth Day will be collected, tabulated and delivered to county and city governmental agencies, and media.
This could be the beginning of sustained County planning in the '90s and nourish a grassroots ground swell which cannot be ignored. If you or your group wish to develop one of the Earth Day information displays, call Nancy Roca at 468-0931.
