Fort Bragg Environmental Center Opens

by Lisa Vargas

The Fort Bragg Environmental Center opened its doors on February 2, 1990 and is booming with activity, information, and help.

It's beginning was the idea of Lisa Lebow, she inspired others to get involved, and a center came into being 6 months later.

The goals of the center are many and include informing the public concerning enviromental issues on a local, state, national and world-wide basis. We also are serving as an informational center for various social issues, such as World Peace, Central America events, Amnesty International, women's rights, children's issues, and others.

Fort Bragg Environmental Center is a "sister-center" of the Mendocino Environmental Center in Ukiah.

The needs of the FBEC include a Macintosh computer and printer, typewriter, VCR and television (to show educational videos), files for the filing cabinet, and, of course, donations to pay rent, phone bills and electric bills.

Our volunteers at this time are: Ann Benson, Karen Frost, Irene Heskitt, Lisa Lebow, Duane Potter, Oliver Trueheart, E.J. VanderBosch, Lisa Vargas, and Vera Zimmer; as well as the Comptche Kid.

We do need more volunteers, as well as a full time director, coordinator. Anyone interested is invited to stop by the Center or call us at 961-0554.
