"It's by popular demand," Sylvia Rust said in a Willits News article. "I think there are local issues that have brought people together. Willits' own water quality and air quality need to be addressed, and they might not be addressed by the Mendocino Environmental Center."
"We want the community to feel like this is theirs," says Ellen Drell, "a place were people can come in with their ideas. This puts a face on the people in the environmental community.... I like to think of this place as a commons, where people can eat their lunch, read, say what's on their mind, and leave messages."
The Willits Environmental Center is open Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The phone number is 459-4110.
