The Monterey Bay Aquarium will be showing an abbreviated version of "Only One Ocean" in its large auditorium either this summer of the next. This will be an excellent opportunity to present Ocean Sanctuary to the many thousands of visitors the world-class aquarium receives from all over the planet.
Early in the summer "Only One Ocean" will show three times to the large crowds in Yosemite National Park.
Then in the late summer, as part of our plan to educate the nation about the plight of the ocean and the need for Ocean Sanctuary, we are scheduling an extended tour of the Northwest Coast to Alaska and back. Stopping in coastal communities like Coos Bay, Oregon, Port Townsend, Washington, Vancouver and Victoria, B.C. and infamous Valdez, we'll help organize people to work for Ocean Sanctuary - protection of the marine environment.
In the fall it will be time to head South, taking Ocean Sanctuary to the millions of coastal residents in California, Texas and the heart of oil land, Louisiana.
With over 50% of our oxygen and 1/3 of our protein coming from the ocean we must all work to protect this key element in our life support system. The recent passage by the U.S. Senate of an energy bill that greases the way for extensive off-shore oil development, by restricting input and GATT agreements which would wipe out environmental protection we've struggled so long and hard for, makes Ocean Sanctuary more imperative than ever.
If you would like to help restore the Ocean as the Sanctuary of all life, please join us know to create Ocean Sanctuary. We need your participation; the Ocean needs your participation.
Specifically needed are: someone to help arrange an itinerary for the Alaska tour; a means of transport to Alaska and back, and a fellow traveller to accompany Judi Vidivar, producer of "Only One Ocean". Judi's number is (707) 964-2742.
And, of course, always needed is financial support, in any amount, for the Alaska tour, for creation of a video version of "Only One Ocean", and for phone calls. Send donations to: Sierra Club Ocean Sanctuary Committee, Box 2330, Ft. Bragg, CA 95437.
