MEC Election Results and Annual Meeting

by Gary Ball

The MEC Board of Directions election was held on Sunday, November 22nd, at the old IWA Hall in Ft. Bragg, 430 E. Redwood Avenue. There were six people running for four positions and there were 201 ballots cast. The vote tallies were as follows: Betty Ball with 197, Gary Ball with 193, Phyl Diri with 139, Richard Johnson with 97, Carmen Christie with 89 and Mary Walsh with 63. This was, indeed, an excellent field of candidates and we thank everyone who participated for running. It should also be noted that one write-in vote each was received by: Margene Mc Gee, Diane Paget, Anna Marie Stenberg, Luke Breit and Harry Merlo. Harry Merlo's vote, however, had to be disallowed because only MEC members can run for the Board and Harry is not a member.

The election was followed by a celebration of the MEC's fifth birthday. There was a pot-luck dinner that rivaled the best Thanksgiving dinner you can imagine, complete with a large turkey as the centerpiece, prepared by Anna Marie. For dessert, there was a huge birthday cake which was decorated like a giant birthday card. The party proceded on into the evening with dancing to the excellent music of Doug Warner and The Night Train Express.

A tremendous thank you is due to Roanne Withers, without whom this exceptional party would never have happened. It was through Roanne's tireless efforts that all the pieces were brought together for the party, no small task at any time of year, but especially demanding near the Thanksgiving holiday. Her effort was an act of kindness for the whole community and it will not be soon forgotten. Thank you Roanne and thanks to everyone who came and helped make the party a success.
