Friends of the Gualala River is a grass roots watershed organization formed to share common concerns, research, restoration practices, forest practice mitigation, and educational workshops.

Policy Goals:

To develop a local watershed organization and a community based environmental study program.

To impress upon people, industry, and the government the value of genetic diversity and the irreversible damage that occurs when species and their habitats are altered or wiped out.

To make credible environmental review an integral part of operating procedures within critical timberland watersheds.

To lend mediation support in negotiations between the timber industry and their land neighbors regarding harvest mitigation or land purchases within watersheds.

To aid regulatory agencies as well as owners in the development of long range watershed management basin planning so as to provide for environmentally sound, multi-use management of lands that have differing interests in their ownerships yet need to have an interconnected view of their uses and their effect on other ownerships and the watershed or basin as a whole.

To share with the general public our observations, concerns, and watershed information through the written page and public radio.

To analyze and collect data on water and plant life and on soil fertility.
