Of course, there have been write-in candidates in past MEC elections, but no write-in candidate has ever won. Even so, a word of caution is in order to those who may wish to exercise their write-in option. Only current MEC members are eligible to be elected to serve on the Board of Directors. In past elections, write-in votes have gone to such celebrities as Opus the Penguin and Harry Merlo. However, neither Opus nor Harry were MEC members at the time. In fact, they still aren't. It's understandable, I guess, that Opus would have so many other pressing concerns that joining the MEC would not be a priority for him. But, Harry? Go figure.
In any event, ballots will be tallied and the winners announced at the close of elections at the MEC's Annual Membership Meeting on Saturday, December 18th. You are all invited to attend an open house at the MEC on that day. Ballots must be in by 1:00 PM when elections will close. Aside from counting ballots and announcing winners, the Annual Meeting is a time for MEC members to get together and socialize. Traditionally, food and drink are available at the event and you are welcome to bring edibles to share with those gathered. The open house and Membership Meeting will run from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM with ballot counting beginning at 1:00 PM. We're hoping you'll plan to be there.
