Boon to Business

by Jodie Clark

The California Materials Exchange (CALMAX) is a waste prevention program funded by the state and sponsored by the California Integrated Waste Management Board and operated jointly with the Local Government Commission. CALMAX acts as a FREE matchmaking service between businesses for the buying, selling, trading, and donating of materials otherwise destined for land fills. In a free bi-monthly catalog, companies can list (also for free) any non-hazardous material they either want or have available for reuse or recycling. By using these materials which would previously have been thrown away your company can save money by lowering production costs, avoiding disposal fees, or make money by selling useable waste materials. Lumber, wood products, fabric, film, french doors, leather, carpets, PVC, and solar energy water panels are but a few of the many materials listed by type and region in CALMAX's Business Reuse and Recycling Catalog. In CALMAX's first year they helped to divert 112,000 tons of material. Help to save the environment and save money at the same time. Call CALMAX: 916-255-2369 or 800-553-2692.
