Healing Global Wounds 1994

"One Water, One Air, One Earth"

by Jennifer Viereck, Program Coordinator

From April 1 - 3, 1994, activists will gather in Cactus Springs, NV, near the Nevada Test Site for an event called "Healing Global Wounds 1994: One Water, One Air, One Earth." The event, initiated by Corbin Harney, Western Shoshone spiritual leader, is described as a Unity Gathering for southwestern North America. It will focus on issues of environmental damage, radiation poisoning, and the sovereignty and land rights of Native Nations. The educational program will include a half-day Alliance Building Workshop, facilitated by Margo Adair, designed to avoid tokenism and create a multi-cultural setting that will inspire all voices to contribute.

"We have to start working together if there's going to be a future for any of us", says Corbin Harney. "We all drink one water, and breathe one air."

Help is needed in many areas to ring this event about. Donations of bulk foods such as rice, oatmeal, gallon cans of beans, chili and tomato sauce, potatoes, soy milk, coffee and teas would be greatly appreciated. Money for fuel, portable toilets and travel for invited speakers is also needed.

The encampment will be located in Cactus Springs, about 15 miles south of the Test Site entrance on land belonging to the 'western Shoshone National Council. It is on the west side of Highway 93, directly across from the :"welcome to Cactus Springs" billboard.

If you plan to attend, please register as soon as possible by sending $35 per person to: Healing Global Wounds 1994, PO Box 599, Indian Springs, NV 89018. For more information: (702) 879-3222.
