Russian River in Peril

A Conference Hosted by Friends of the Russian River (FORR)

"Russian River in Peril" is an educational conference on the Russian River focusing on fisheries, stream restoration, planning and management, and gravel-mining intervention. Panel experts will outline the costs - financial and otherwise - of mismanaging and abusing this resource. The conference will be held on Saturday, March 19th at the Villa Chanticleer in Healdsburg from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

Speakers include: Congressional Reps. Dan Hamburg and Lynn Woolsey, Senator Mike Thompson, Sonoma County Supervisors Ernie Carpenter and Mike Cale, State Resources Secretary Doug Wheeler, and two former Resource Secretaries. Friends of the River will put the Russian River in the big picture of river protection issues state-wide. Keynote speaker is Dr. Mathias Kondolf, geomorphologist, hydrologist, and assistant professor of environmental planning at U.C. Berkeley. Representatives of public agencies responsible for the health of the river will answer questions, Featured are staff of the Coastal Conservancy's Russian River Enhancement Plan and Diana Jacobs, author of the State Lands Commission's public trust report entitled "Broken Rivers".

Admission includes lunch prepared by Chef and Healdsburg Councilman Pete Foppiano. Display booths will be on view during breaks, lunch and a reception at day's end.
