Prospective Board members should, however, be advised that through the years certain expectations and traditions have evolved that do go beyond the basic requirements for Board members. In general, unlike Board members for other organizations who may occasionally help with fundraising, MEC Board members tend to be activists who get involved in the actual day to day work of the MEC. This involvement can take any number of forms, and it is certainly up to the individual, but the fact remains that MEC Board members tend to have more of a "hands-on" experience than other Boards of Directors may have.
So, if you're someone who likes to be involved with environmental and social justice issues, if you're looking for something worthwhile to do with your spare time and energy, if you like something that's always challenging and sometimes even rewarding, then perhaps the MEC Board is the place for you. Four of seven seats on the Board will be decided in this election. The election will occur in early December, so please submit your name to the MEC by the end of November if you would like to be a candidate.
