Human Rights Monitoring Project

by Lynda McClure

The Mendocino-Lake Counties Human Rights Monitoring Project (HRMP) is a group of concerned residents from diverse backgrounds who are committed to nonviolence, police accountability, and equal justice for all our neighbors.

HRMP was created in 1995 in response to increasing complaints from residents detailing misconduct by law enforcement throughout our counties. We believe it is critical that the issue of police abuse be faced and that we join together to overcome it. By interviewing victims of police misconduct and documenting these reports, HRMP tracks which officers in which agencies are abusive, and the physical and social status characteristics of who is abused.

Education

HRMP conducts public education programs on legal and justice issues, and trains people in the practice of nonviolence, and monitoring police and court activity.

HRMP recognizes and appreciates people working in law enforcement who do their jobs well and don't participate in harassment and abuse.
