Planning for the Russian River:

A Symposium

By Shannon Wesley

This is the first biennial conference hosted by the Steering Committee of key organizations, members of the community, and the Sonoma County Water Agency. The hosts are hoping for broad-based participation from private or public groups, and individuals, interested in Russian River issues. This is an opportunity to meet, network, form partnerships for preservation, promote communication, cooperation, and coordination. Speakers and panels will address such watershed issues as:

*Water Management
*Sustaining and Enhancing the River's Natural Resources
*Water: How Much is Enough? How Much is Too Much?
*Economic Values: How Do We Find a Balance?
*Where Are We Now? Moving Forward Toward Consensus

The site of the event is the Luther Burbank Center in Santa Rosa, California, where there will be speakers, workshops and displays. On Thursday, May 14, tours of the watershed are available with stops at some Sonoma and Mendocino County attractions. One of the tours will include the west river region and Guerneville. A special Friday night reception will be catered by Sonoma Select, and includes entrance to exhibitor viewing. Those who wish more information about attending or being an exhibitor may call Shannon Wesley at 707-521-2104.
