Protecting Wildlife

by Rebecca Grant

*Design and plant a garden with lots of flowers to attract birds, butterflies, squirrels, hummingbirds, and other wildlife!

*Next time you see a bug, don't kill it! Take the time to check it out - they're pretty neat, you'd be surprised (especially spiders)!

*Hang on to your helium balloons instead of letting them fly away! Balloons often fly into the ocean and are mistaken for food by marine life, who could choke on a balloon and die.

*Don't litter! When you go on a hike or to the beach, bring a bag with you to pick up litter! Wildlife can be injured by human trash.

*Snip each ring of six pack holders before you throw them away! Sometimes animals can get caught on them and can get injured or die.

*Make a birdfeeder for our feathered friends! You can do this by putting peanut butter all over a pine cone, covering it with birdseed and hanging it outside. Or you could make a birdhouse or birdfeeder from an empty 1/2 gallon milk carton. Remember to make sure it is clean and be creative. This is a great chance to re-use!
