Fundraising
¥ Donate money so our doors will stay open! A recommended membership is $20.00 a year, though our sliding scale bottoms out at $1.00. No one will be turned away. Large contributions of $100.00 to $1,000.00 are especially helpful right now. Call ahead to arrange for tax deductible donations.
¥ Join the Fundraising Committee! We are planning a smorgasboard of fundraising events from a raffle and variety show to canvassing to an art auction. The details of organizing these events are still materializing. Call Kirsten or Lynda at the MEC and inquire about the different events for which we will need volunteers and we'll be happy to put you on a call list for when the organizing kicks into gear.
¥ Encourage your friends and family to join the Mendocino Environmental Center.

Daily Help At The MEC
¥ Do you have a few free hours a week and want to learn more about what's going on in the world? Answering the phones at the MEC is a sure-fire quick education. We respond to local, regional and national calls on subjects ranging from Headwaters Forest to pesticide toxicity. We are an activist networking switchboard and a community bulletin. If you are ready for a regular commitment of time learning this facility, please call ahead to schedule some trainings. Ask to speak with Kirsten.
¥ The MEC is a information storehouse. We carry years of newspaper clippings related to environmental issues from local, regional and national papers. We are always clipping the current news - if you walk in you will see a pile of papers in various stages of dismantling. Want to help? It's easy. Come in and we'll show you, and in the meantime you can have a grand old time chatting with the local characters. We laugh a lot here.
Ongoing Projects
¥ We need a librarian/archivist to help us catalogue our collection of ten years of environmental movement history. If you have any training/experience in this field, please contact us.
¥ We need committed artists to co-ordinate the window displays at the MEC. The window displays are best used in direct correlation to current activism. A window display co-ordinator will need to be in regular contact with the point people working on current issues.
¥ We need physical help moving out of the building when it comes time for the retrofit. Lots of lifting, use of trucks. Call and we'll put you on a "Move List".
¥ The Newsletter Collective welcomes more journalists, editors, layout maestros and graphic artists. Call for the date of the next Collective meeting.
Sometimes it seems discouraging when you drop in to help and there's so much going on that you don't know where to start. I will be happy to take time with you to help you find your niche, especially if you make an appointment. Oftentimes Lynda and I are on several deadlines at once and can't afford the time away from our projects to help people help us. If we can set aside some time for volunteer orientation by appointment, we'll be able to plug people in more effectively. The more help we get, the easier all of the work is and the more fun we have doing it! The Mendocino Environmental Center is a very rare community resource: it is a vehicle by which we make our voices heard. You are welcome to join.
