A never ending open poem to Charles Hurwitz

by Jamie Jones

If you think we'll grow tiredÉ
p>You are wrong.
p>We have connections with 2000 year-old-trees to inspireÊus.
p>If you think we are foolishÉ
p>You are wrong.
p>We are scientists, biologists, foresters, lawyers, activists, educators, mothers, fathers, children, grandparents, humans and we are many.
p>If you think we can't compete with your wealthÉ
p>You are wrong.
p>We understand the connection on this planet between all living things.
p>We have hearts that direct our actions.
p>If you think you are so powerfulÉ
p>You are wrong.
p>We are all subject to equal entrances and exits on this spinning globe and Mother Nature always bats last.
p>If you think your "friends" in high places will save you from jail or finesÉ
p>You are wrong.
p>We will never stop pursuing justice from any avenue.
p>There are Higher Courts.
p>If you think your wealth can keep your family insulatedÉ
p>You are wrong.
p>They will be subjected, as will we, to the same crises and catastrophes of global warming, environmental degradation and deforestation in the next century.
p>If you think you're held in high esteem because of your "Position in Life"É
p>You are wrong.
p>It is only the duplicitous deceit of this materialistic society; an empty respectÉ
p>We know that there are other ways to know the "worth of a man" that have nothing to do with money.
p>If you think you're above judgmentÉ
p>You are wrong.
p>We know that the truth will have its way with us all.
p>If you think you are a "corporate hero"É
p>You are wrong.
p>We have strong, wonderful heroes who sit in trees.
p>The longest tree-sit in historyÉ
p>If you think we will stop writing, calling, faxing, going to schools and putting the truth out about the wondrous HeadwatersÉ
p>YOU ARE WRONG.
p>If you think you can cross your arms at a board meeting and make ultimatumsÉ
p>You are wrong.
p>We all know where over-inflated egos will end up.
p>If you think I enjoyed writing this poem,
p>You are right!
p>Another mother for Headwaters.
