New MEC Affiliates

Joining the organizations working out of the MEC are: Alliance for Democracy - Corporate control is the issue. The Alliance has chapters throughout the US, including one on the Mendocino coast. Inland meetings are the first Monday of each month at the MEC. During the first several months study groups will be conducted to educate ourselves about various aspects of corporate rule.

The approach recommended by the Alliance (Ronnie Dugger) and by the Program on Corporations, Law and Democracy (Richard Grossman) for dealing with this issue is revocation of corporate charters, as was common practice a hundred years ago. (See article on page 4.)

Year 2000 Community Preparedness (Y2K) - Groups are meeting in several towns in the county to facilitate communities organizing themselves for the millennium. See the Calendar in this newsletter for date, time and location for meetings in your community. (See article on page 1.)

Nonviolence Trainers and Peacekeepers Collective - After initial organizing meetings, this group will meet quarterly for ongoing training and coordination. If you have been a nonviolence trainer or a peacekeeper at demonstrations and rallies, or want to be part of this important work, call the MEC. Trainers and Peacekeepers are needed at the Nevada Test Site May 7-10.
