Critique of Corporations

Editor's Notes The theme of this MEC Newsletter is corporations: the impersonal, profits-only values that drive them; the damage they wreak on the natural world, local economies and third world people; and efforts that are being made to rein them in. Our front cover pictures an alternative to corporate food distributionÑbuying directly from growers at one of eight seasonal farmers markets in Mendocino County. Other grassroots alternatives to doing business with corporations include food co-ops and buyers clubs, artists co-ops, and local currencies on the Coast (SEED) and just being launched inland (Ukiah HOURS). Theme articles for this issue, in addition to the three that begin on this page, include The Crisis from Capitalism (p.3); World Atomic Safety Holiday(p.4); Voluntary Simplicity (p. 5); Y2K Progress (p. 5); Alliance for Democracy (p.7), and Corporate Forest Liquidation (p. 9).
