Our lending library is growing as we've put out some books from donated libraries. Our video lending library needs some tape dubbing before all tapes are available to take home, and that is a great volunteer project, as well. In the meantime, all tapes can be viewed in the MEC when we're open. Watch for a complete listing of lending videos, most of which are very unique.
The organizational changes have been exciting. The goal has been to create a team to be responsible for the operations of the MEC. We have increased coordinators from the traditional one or two to six: Fiscal, Media, Volunteer, Public Outreach, Environmental, and Social Justice. The various administrative and day-to-day operations are shared by this group, who are called the Coordinator Council. This is being accomplished with little increase in the budget because a significant portion of the work is unpaid at this time, and therefore requires committed people who are willing and able to put in a lot of volunteer hours. It is a goal to compensate people fairly for the work they do that is essential to the operation of the MEC, and for that we rely on funding from people who support what we are doing.
Much of our shift involves reducing hierarchical structures, defining areas of responsibility, and developing group decision making and conflict resolution processes. It is a challenge that has, so far, been productive and satisfying.
If you support the MEC's work and the role we play in environmental protection, peace, social justice, and facilitating community education and activism, please help with a financial contribution. Tax deductible donations can be made through the MEC Education Fund of the Cloud Forest Institute, with checks payable to CFI/MEC.
