Country People Plan Celebration

Planning is underway for the 2nd Annual MEC Holiday Dinner / Dance. The date of the event is Friday, December 8th and it will again be held at the Ukiah Methodist Church. Andrea Jacobson of Curlymind Productions has conjured up another enchanting image of a tree for our publicity poster. This year she has depicted a Redwood under a glowing rainbow moon. (See small version in this newsletter.) Ree Slocum is coordinating our Raffle / Auction Committee. This year we will conduct a Raffle for the six weeks leading up to the event as well as a Silent Auction during the course of the evening. If you would like to donate to either of these fundraisers please contact the Ree, 459-4922.

Vicki Oldham and her Plowshares crew, "The Mad Women of the Kitchen" will again combine their culinary magic to create another homegrown organic feast. Anyone who would be willing to plant an extra row or two of lettuces into your autumn garden to add to the salad ingredients are encouraged to do so. Donations of organic onions, eggplant, garlic, butternut squash, carrots or any garden salad veggies are welcome. Let Vicki know (743-1913) as soon as you are sure you have surplus veggies to donate

Amber Trotter and her cheerful, helpful friends of Youth Environmental Action (YEA) will again grace us as servers. This year we will add to the fun by encouraging costumes with a Country People Storming the Castle theme. Lisdoonvarna will set the mood with acoustic Celtic music during dinner. After feasting we will have the opportunity to frolic to the danceable repertoire of "Rock It". Long live Rock and Roll!

Even the planning can be fun if enough volunteers come forward to share tasks. Committees include: 1) Public Relations, 2) Decorations / Set up, 3) Spirited Beverages, 4) Raffle / Silent Auction, 5) Music, 6)

Food, 7) Event Logistics, 8) Program, and last but far from least

important, 9) Clean up. Call the MEC to find out when the next meeting is, to sign up for a committee or even get an assignment.

This is a fundraiser for the MEC. Costs to members: Dinner Alone: $15 per person, Twelve years and younger: $5 per person, Dance: $10 per person, Dinner and Dance: $20 per person. Costs to non-members (Join the MEC and save!) Dinner Alone: $18 per person, Twelve years and younger: $5, Dance: $10 per person, Dinner and Dance: $25. A limited number of meals will be prepared therefore it is important to phone the MEC to make reservations by December 1.

If you would like to underwrite a portion of the cost of producing this event we would be glad to let you know how your contribution will be used as well as make it tax deductible.
