MEC Canvass News

by Greg Bourget

Back in January, with the approval of the MEC board, Kristin and I started as new MEC employees for a door to door canvass. We are both veteran door canvassers from Greenpeace. Our goals have been to find new members and explain the federal government's plan to illegally dump our country's high-level nuclear waste in a hole on the Wester Shoshone Native Reservation. The initial response to the canvass was so supportive that we decided to reach as many Ukiah, Hopland, and Willits residents as possible.

To date we have talked to over 500 people about the MEC at their homes. Fifty Mendocino residents became new members so far and have contribute over $2000. We have canvassd from one-third to one-half of the supportive neighborhoods so far and we expect to finish canvassing the rest. The MEC is using new funding from the door canvass beyond expenses to improve its direct mail, high donor, and tabling infrastructure. Improving MEC literature, as well as legal and administrative support in these areas, has increased the MEC total membership by an additional 30 members already. Future support provided by these new members will go to the MEC general fund.

Bob, this is probably best in a box.
