The physical space of the office has been reorganized. We have had office furniture and computer equipment donated to us. Files and databases have been created and improved, so that the community has a resource for research into many environmental and social justice topics. A progressive video and book lending library has been updated, organized and indexed. We now have the capability to receive credit card payments and contributions. We provide to the community an "at cost" source of 100% post consumer waste office paper and kenaf envelopes.
The membership has increased, and the membership database has been improved. Many new volunteers have been enlisted to work on MEC projects. Public outreach has increased through forums, door-to-door canvassing and mailed MEC Alerts. We have restructured the organization and now have a non-hierarchical administrative system. Organizational and personnel policies and procedures have been simplified, clarified and made labor friendly.
Operational expenses have been cut, and improved accounting procedures have been established. Our finances are in the black (well, maybe dark gray). We have formed an alliance with Cloud Forest Institute (CFI), a 501c(3) educational non-profit corporation. CFI can fiscally sponsor any educational programs designed by the MEC and receive tax deductible contributions on our behalf.
Growth and change can be both painful and powerful experiences. Through hard work and group process we have emerged stronger than ever. With belief in people's power and the effectiveness of education and organization we are ready for whatever the future brings. With eyes on the long term, we invite you to work with us.
