What are the real costs of offshore oil drilling and nuclear power, of dams and unsustainable forestry? In the balance between economics and environment, the scales are tipped toward the money. The actual cost of doing business is rarely measured with the inclusion of life, or health, or regard for the future. As the current "energy crisis" makes clear, corporate profits outweigh all else. But the mask that grins and lies is unable to hide the face of greed. We can and must stop playing their game and start a new one of our own. It's time to take our power back with conservation, renewable energy, sustainability, and concern for community. In this issue you will find discussions of why and how.Copyright Mendocino Environmental Center 2001
