State Of The MEC

There have again been many changes at the MEC. It is with sadness and thankfulness that we say goodbye to staff members Lynda McClure, Chris McCormick and Alana Oldham. These three women have been our staff, our inspiration and a piece of our heart and soul. They have been tireless workers and enduring volunteers, often working uncountable volunteer hours for which they deserved to be paid. They are moving on but not away from activism. We acknowledge with gratefulness their many contributions to the MEC and wish them well in their new endeavors. We are in the process of hiring new staff and are aware of what big shoes we need to fill. We have added three new members to the Board of Directors. We joyfully welcome Kristen Gardner, Sherry Glaser and Johanna Schultz. These three women are awesome activists with great energy. We know their contributions will go a long way toward making us a stronger and better organization.

In the last Newsletter we inserted raffle tickets for a two-hour sea-cave tour for two. We would like to thank Lost Coast Kayaking for generously donating the prize. Congratulations to Dale Glaser, our longtime friend and volunteer, who most deservedly won the prize. The raffle netted $598, which helped pay for production and printing. We intend to hold a raffle with each Newsletter to help offset costs. Thanks to all who participated.

We are working to increase MEC membership. You will see us tabling at Ukiah Natural Foods and at local events. You might find us knocking on your door during our summer canvass, or receive a mailed request for renewals or new memberships. We are a member-supported organization. You, our members, are our lifeblood, and right now we need a transfusion. Our goal is 1,000 members by the end of the year, which will significantly increase our income and allow our staff and activists to do their jobs. See page 15 for membership information.
