4th Annual Coho Confab

Trees Foundation announces the 4th Annual Coho Confab, to be held August 17, 18 and 19, in the upper Mattole River watershed. The Coho Confab is a weekend-long gathering of people to explore watershed restoration to enhance the recovery of salmon and steelhead. Beginning four years ago as the vision of long-time restoration advocate extraordinaire, Richard Geinger, the Confab has grown into a vital annual event that brings together community members, landowners, activists, and restorationists with a common interest: the recovery of salmon and steelhead. The Confab offers not only a venue for communication, but a weekend full of hands-on restoration training workshops. By encouraging communication between all sectors of our community, we hope to more effectively explore the potential for restoration in our homes and watersheds as well as learn first-hand skills necessary to do so. The theme for this year's Confab is "Community, Cooperation and Coho." Trees Foundation believes that community participation and cooperation will indeed help nurture vibrant watersheds for all residents and "spawn" new and creative ways to bring back the Coho.

The Coho Confab will take place at Nadelos BLM Campground on Chemise Mountain Road, 17.7 miles from Redway on the Shelter Cove Road.

There is entertainment planned for both Friday and Saturday evenings, including local writer and historian Freeman House reading from his book Totem Salmon, and local musician Francine Allen singing around the campfire.

A $25-60 donation is requested. Campground fee and meals are included. Work-trades are available. Participants can register for the entire weekend or for individual workshops. Call Trees Foundation for directions and registration, 923-4377.
