Sustainable Mendocino:

Local Group Explores Issues of Sustainability

Sustainable Mendocino (SUM) is a small collective of people who have come together to discuss and work on issues of sustainability in Mendocino County. Issues discussed include alternative fuels, food safety (organics, GE and GMOs), watersheds and others. The group meets informally once a month, generally on the third Monday at 6:30 pm in Ukiah, with a potluck meal for sustenance. The members support one another's projects, and work on issues of concern in the community. Several sub-groups have been formed to work on special projects. For example, SUM is currently working on a Food Guide for the county. It will include organic farmers, farmers who grow and sell locally, and places where you can find their produce, i.e., restaurants, grocery stores, farmers' markets, etc. To get on SUM's contact list or attend a meeting, please contact Sanjeev Balagee at 462-2540.

Business Sponsors

The Business Sponsorship Program involves local businesses whose products and services are consistent with Mendocino Environmental Center values. Their support helps to sustain the MEC as we continue to work toward environmental and social justice. In turn, we ask our members and readers to support these sponsors.
