New Board

Recent Board elections resulted in a new, young and highly motivated Board of Directors. Its members are Lang Russel, Ed Nieves, Adam Williams, Lynda McClure, Matt Hamburg, Paul Davis, Chet Collins, Brandon Virgin, Brian Varkevisser, Efren Turner, Emily Ansolabehere-Hine and Mary Kameko Shibata and John Nicholson.

Movie Night

The MEC now has a video projector and sound system. We will be showing videos on the first Thursday of each month, followed by a group discussion. Call the office for more information.

Thank you and Good-bye

Kristin Frith and Alicia Littletree have completed their Board terms. We thank them for all their hard work and commitment. Vicki Oldham will be on sabbatical beginning in February, to work on her homestead and care for family members. She will still be a member of the Newsletter collective and help with specific projects, but will relinquish her leadership position. We need volunteers to step up and take on some of her jobs.

Raffle

The winners of last autumn's raffle were: Mike Riddell, an airplane flight for two over Mendocino County piloted by Burke Snow; Bob Brown Kidstown, a $75 dinner for two at the Albion River Inn; T. Gorton, a $25 certificate at Ukiah Brewing Company; and Mark Winkler, a $30 grab-bag of goodies from Incognito. Thank you to the generous folks who donated prizes and to all those who bought tickets.

Political Art Contest

The MEC is holding the First Annual Political Art Contest and auction on March 10, at 7 pm. All mediums are accepted, and all ages are welcome to participate. Art should be submitted to the MEC office ready for display. Artwork should focus on political satire and current political issues. Prizes will be awarded. Admission for the March 10th event is $3 for non-participants. Refreshments and music will be provided. All proceeds from this event will go to the Mendocino Environmental Center. For more information, call Brandon Virgin at 468-1660.

Volunteers Needed

The Mendocino Environmental Center, which is all of us, does not have enough volunteers to work on some of the most basic issues that are of concern to anyone living in our countyÑissues involving our land, air and the waters surrounding us.

This is a time of fear for us allÑfear for world peace, and fears here in the U.S. for our basic rights and for a stable economy. It is exactly because of these fears that we need the strong base of volunteers the MEC has had in past years. Call the MEC to get involved. The times truly call for it.

Business Sponsors

The Mendocino Environmental Center would like to thank these local business sponsors. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor, please contact the MEC.
