Welcome! The MEC extends a warm welcome to the community after a few years rest, while builders squeezed the new building in next door. Everything was moved into a city-owned house on Observatory Way. Minimally staffed since then, it is now awakening into a fully operational environmental and social justice center, which houses its own radio station. The guiding principles behind the MEC’s activities continue to be the objectives of our mission statement; collaboration with other social justice and like-minded groups and organizations to work together throughout the community, making the combined groups a stronger unit, and therefore providing the best possible solutions to some of our local social justice problems. After its slumber, a strong innovative, supportive crew is building up membership and setting up new board elections, for which we invite nominations and strongly urge you to get involved. A number of qualified candidates, with a wide variety of experience, are already running. Individual community building and support, another component of the mission statement, is also important. Some fresh ideas for extending out into the community are: providing affordable meeting space, promoting community support through outreach, offering a regular movie and popcorn night. Please send or call in your ideas or come in to help and expand the working group. This is a vital opportunity for the community to get involved at a time when the MEC is in a revival stage. The radio station also provides a wonderful opportunity, already sparked with live coverage of events, including town hall meetings, and KMEC’s cosponsoring and participating in a couple of Healing Arts fairs. |
